This made me cry...
Another reason why I posted this is because I just studied about Alzheimer's Disease for my Neurobiology paper.
In Alzheimer's disease (AD), patients lose a selected part of their memory. This is because, in layman's terms, a mutation happened, which "changed" our genes, and hence affect the normal functioning of our brain cells (neurons). Neurons are unable to survive as efficiently as before so they die, resulting in loss of information (memory) stored in them.
Unlike Parkinson's disease, patients with AD are unaware of their condition, which makes caring for them difficult. Don't assume that AD only happen at an old age. Early-phase AD can occur too, and it is genetically-related. People who have relatives or grandparents suffering from the disease are more likely to get AD.
I personally think that I will want to go for a genetic analysis before I get married, to know more about my predispositions and general health status. However, I'm not quite sure if this service is available in Singapore, and how much it actually costs to do such an analysis. Anyone knows?
